Your New Pooch’s Training Should Start Right Away

without comments

It is widely acknowledged that the better trained your dog is, the higher quality of a relationship the two of you will enjoy. Well-trained and well-socialized dogs are a joy to be around, and can make pet ownership a delightful aspect of your life. So to enhance your relationship with your dog, read on!

When training your dog make sure you always get his attention in the same manor. Always start your commands with his name. Get his attention with his name and then follow that with what you want him to do. Dogs often respond to their name immediately and know you intend for them to pay attention.

An easy way to stop a puppy from biting is to act hurt when he or she nibbles at you. By startling your puppy with a noise and leaving the room, your puppy begins to learn that biting has negative consequences in the form that you will stop playing with it.

Throwing out your dog’s food bowl can assist you with your training program. Studies have shown that animals respond well to working for their meals. Incorporate food as a reward in your training and also, use it for entertainment purposes. You can do this by putting the food in a toy or a puzzle.

When teaching your dog how to walk on a leash, hold your ground if he attempts to pull you. Plant your feet and do not budge until the dog stops pulling. Your dog will realize that he gets nowhere by pulling. When you are able to get him to walk beside you, reinforce the habit with treats.

If you are undergoing chemotherapy it is common for certain foods to leave a metallic taste in your mouth. The most common foods that give this type of reaction are water and meats. You can try adding fruit to water to lighten the taste and you can substitute fish, eggs, beans, or some other type of protein to your diet instead of meat.

To keep your dog from barking, teach them to obey to a simple order that will make them quiet. When your dog barks, show them a treat and repeat the order, for instance ‘be quiet’ until it stops barking. You can then give it the treat. If you repeat this long enough, your dog will associate the treat and then the order with being quiet.

Using a crate when you’re not at home can be very effective, especially for a young puppy. The crate keeps your puppy safe and secure, and also protects your home from chewing and bathroom accidents. Your puppy can learn to feel comfortable and protected in his crate home while you are away.

Many people are surprised to realize that training their dog is often far easier, far less stressful, and far less time-consuming than they had originally thought. Simple changes in our own behavior, as well as simple techniques that we implement, can result in big improvements in our dog’s behavior.
